Car wash RBG

Fought with this one a lot more than I should have. Tried and tried to do it all in KS, as I like to make it all just work, but there was no way to get the light propagation like the photos I was using as references. This would be a great example of using KS as a tool to make the components that are used in a final comp. The color and sprays are all photoshop, the drips and suds are in KS as bump maps and labels. It was a quick turn image, didn’t have a ton of time. Water streaks are a bit repetitive, but deadlines make you pick and choose, and for this one the colors were the primary concern. KS is a great tool for making bits and parts for comps like this, not just for 99% there renders.

I can imagine that was a hard one! Think it would also be a tough one in other renderers. While I see sometimes great stuff where they animated fluids using fluid simulations I think that wouldn’t work with something like this where you mainly have some spray of water.

I would like to try this again with a scattering medium of some sort to catch the lights, its not a material that i’ve ever used before and it just might do a good job of catching and refracting the colored light beams

I was just playing a bit around with it some days ago with the Tonka Toy thing. I’m not sure what it is but the ‘scattering direction’ slider can help a lot if you have the idea the effect is not strong enough. This was just a quick 'n dirty render but thought it was funny to make a toy car look more ‘aggressive’.
